Hello Sacred Heart Youth Group Families,

There have been a few schedule changes I wanted to update you on and provide you with the sign up links for our fall events! Also, a reminder to complete the Youth Group Permission form for the 2025-26 school year.

Our HSYG Thursday meetings are changing from 6:30-9:00 to 6:00-9:00. Boys and girls small groups will meet from 6:00-6:30 followed by dinner, a game, lectio divina, a short talk, and closing in adoration with the opportunity for confession. This addition to our schedule gives the high schoolers more time for intentional fellowship, allows our prayer time later in the evening to be more focused, and will help us end on time at 9 sharp!

There are two date changes for MSYG from the schedule published earlier this month. The Fall Retreat will be on October 10th from 4:30-9:30 and the swing dance will be on October 18th from 6:30-8:30. An updated calendar and sign ups for both of these events are linked below!

At the bottom of this email you will find the sign up for Raking in the Dough, our fall fundraiser. Please look at your calendars and decide which day your family will participate in raking! Youth participation is expected and parent participation is encouraged! This is a successful fundraiser that helps cover the cost of pizzas and 6-foot soccer balls and allows us to subsidize the cost of our retreats. The biggest hurdle in years past is that we have had more yards to rake than youth to complete them! Please make this a priority!

This week we have HSYG on Thursday (cereal bar and capture the flag), MSYG on Friday (pizza and super soccer), and a HSYG dance on Saturday!! See below for swing dance, retreat, and raking sign ups.

Join other 9th-12th graders for a Saturday evening of swing dance instruction and fun! Dances are held in Carroll Hall under the main church of Sacred Heart from 7-9:30 pm.

MSYG Service Events

There are two service opportunities for the middle school youth group this fall! Confirmation candidates must attend one to fulfill their service requirement.

On October 4th from 10:00-12:00 we will be volunteering with the Franciscan Monastery's Garden Guild. This will be outdoor physical labor either harvesting fall crops or helping winterize fields. The produce from the farm helps feed those experiencing food insecurity in DC.

On October 18th from 7:00-10:00 we will be volunteering at Catholic Charities SHARE program which also serves those experiencing food insecurity! We will be working in their warehouse helping prep produce for distribution.

For both events we need 2-4 parent chaperones. Please reach out to Al Baxter (al@sacredheartbowie.org) if you are available.

MSYG Fall Retreat

Our annual MSYG Fall Retreat & Fest will be on October 10th from 4:30-9:30. The Blue Nuns will host us for retreat at their house from which we will walk down the hill to Fall Fest at Montpelier Farms. Cost is $20 to cover admission to Fall Fest. Pizza and snacks will be provided during the retreat. Scholarships are available; please email al@sacredheartbowie.org.

Drop off at the Sister Servants' Novitiate house (1714 Crain Hwy, Upper Marlboro) and pick up at the entrance of Montpelier Farms (1720 Crain Hwy, Upper Marlboro).

Swing Dance on Saturday, October 18th from 6:30-8:30 in Carroll Hall for 6th-8th graders! Professional dance instruction! Cost is $10. Snacks and sodas provided.

Raking in the Dough

Volunteer

This sign up is for Youth Group families participating in the "Raking in the Dough" fundraiser. We ask each family to sign up for an afternoon of raking. The fundraiser helps cover the costs of our meals and supplies for regular youth group meetings and allows us to subsidize the cost of retreats and special activities!

Raking will take place on November 8th, 9th, and 15th from 1:00-4:00 pm. The week of the fundraiser you will get an email from Al with your raking group and assigned yard!
